The rules, step by step
- Every round deals you two prompts. Type your funniest answer to each on your own phone.
- Each prompt was secretly dealt to two players, so every prompt becomes a head-to-head.
- The face-offs come up one at a time and everyone else votes — authors sit theirs out.
- 100 points per vote, a bonus for winning the face-off, and an extra for a unanimous sweep.
- Playing with a small group? The house bot takes a seat and writes answers too.
Scoring and the fiddly bits
The pairing wheel
Seats are shuffled each round and paired with their neighbour. That is what makes it two prompts each, and two different opponents.
Scoring
100 a vote, 100 for taking the face-off, 50 each on a tie, and 100 more for a unanimous sweep with at least two voters.
The house bot
On auto it seats at four players or fewer; the host can force it on or off. Its answers are dealt at the start, so nothing ever waits on it.
Rounds and prompts
One, three, five or eight rounds — three by default — from a party, spicy or mixed prompt set the host chooses.
If somebody leaves
Answers already written stay in play, and any answer they still owed is filled from the house pool so their opponent still gets a matchup.

How many people do you need for Quip Battle?
Between 3 and 12. Below 3 there are not enough of you for the game to work.
Do we need to download anything?
No. One person opens the site and starts a room; everybody else joins by typing the room code on their own phone. Nothing to install, nothing to sign up for.
Can we play Quip Battle over a video call?
Yes. Share the room code in the chat and play with the call running — everything private stays on each player’s own phone.
