How to play the imposter game
The imposter game is a bluffing game for three or more people: everyone but one player knows a secret word, and that one player has to fake it. The generator does the dealing, so nobody has to write words on paper or referee.
- Choose how many players there are and a category, or leave it on Surprise me.
- Pass the phone. Each player taps to see their word in private, then hides it and passes it on. One player sees “imposter”.
- Take turns saying one word about the secret word, out loud. Never the word itself.
- Vote on who the imposter is. A caught imposter gets one guess at the word; a correct guess wins them the round.
Tips for a better round
Clue with one word
A single word keeps the round moving and makes every clue easier to compare.
Aim between too easy and too vague
A clue everyone can decode helps the imposter; a clue nobody can decode makes you the suspect.
Vote at the same moment
Count down and point together so nobody follows the first accusation.
Swap the phone-holder
Let the winner or the person to their left start the next round.

How does an imposter game generator work?
It picks a category and a secret word. You pass the phone round: each player taps to see the word in private, and one player is shown “imposter” instead. Then you give one-word clues and vote.
How many players do you need for the imposter game?
Three can play, but with five or more the imposter has more clues to hide behind and the vote is harder to call. This generator deals to anywhere from three to twelve players.
Does the imposter know the word?
Not in this version. They see only that they are the imposter, plus the category if you leave that setting on. Their job is to give a clue that sounds like they know.
Can I make the imposter game harder?
Turn off “Show the imposter the category”. With no category to work from, the imposter has to build a clue from what the other players say.
Is the generator free, and does it send my words anywhere?
It is free, needs no app or sign-up, and picks words on your own device. Nothing about your round is sent anywhere.
