The rules, step by step
- The cue giver sees one square hidden on the board of 480 colours.
- They say one word. Everyone else places a marker where they think it is.
- Then two words, and a second marker each.
- Bang on scores 3, next door 2, close 1.
- The cue giver scores for every marker beside the target, up to three.
Scoring and the fiddly bits
Scoring the markers
Dead on scores 3, one square away 2, two squares away 1. Both of your markers score independently, so six is a perfect round.
The giver places nothing
They score only for the crowd they gathered inside the ring around the target, up to three points.
One word means one word
The first cue takes exactly one word and the second exactly two. Anything else is refused rather than argued about.
How the board is laid out
Thirty columns of hue, sixteen rows from light to dark, lettered A–P and numbered 1–30. The top and bottom rows are the tints and shades.
Targets never repeat
Squares are drawn without replacement and against what the room has already played, so no colour is described twice in a night.
