Games for 6 players

Six is where turn order starts costing money. A game that goes round the table before you act again is a different experience at six than it was at four.

So the simultaneous games pull ahead. Boggle, Mastermind and Scattergories hand all six of you the same grid, code or letter at once and nobody waits for anybody. Wits & Wagers has everyone write a guess and then everyone bet, so both halves of a round are busy.

Six is also the first count where teams are three a side, and three is the smallest team that can argue with itself. In Taboo and Wavelength one person suggests, one disagrees, and the third has to decide — which is most of what a team game is for.

And the bluffing games finally have bodies to hide among. Fake Artist at six is five real artists against one faker, One Night Werewolf deals six roles with three more unclaimed in the middle, and every Drawful drawing arrives with five invented titles around it.

Questions about Games for 6 players

Why are the turn-based games missing?

Scrabble stops at four and Monopoly Deal at five, so neither is an option. Skull still seats six, but it asks you to sit through five other players between your own decisions.

How do teams work at six?

Three a side. Wavelength splits by seat order and alternates turns; Taboo puts one clue giver on stage while the opposing three read the same card with the buzzer in front of them.

Which is quickest to explain to six people?

Boggle. Trace words through touching letters, longer scores far more, and anything two of you found is crossed out for both. That last rule is the whole game and it takes one sentence.

Six people and a loud room — what then?

Scattergories and Mastermind. Both are played entirely on your own phone against a clock, so nobody has to be heard to take part, and the talking is saved for the challenges at the end.
