A card goes up — a weird word, an acronym, a film nobody has seen — and it has one true meaning. Everyone secretly writes a definition they hope will pass for it, the truth is shuffled in among the fakes, and nobody is told who wrote what.
Then the vote. Every player your lie catches is worth 100, and finding the truth yourself is worth 200 — so the game rewards writing like a dictionary, not like a comedian. The real entry is nearly always short and flat, and the fake that matches it is the one that scores.
Write what the card actually says and it is a dead ringer: 300 points, and you sit that vote out. Ten decks feed the cards, and the host picks which are in — from obscure words to jobs that no longer exist.
How to play Bluff It

- Every fake goes up with the truth shuffled in among them, and nobody is told who wrote what.
- Vote for the one you think came off the card. You cannot vote for your own.
- 100 points for every player your lie catches, and 200 for finding the truth yourself.
- Write what the card actually says and it is a dead ringer: 300 points, and you sit that vote out.

The true entry is usually one plain clause, and the fake that matches its size is the one that collects votes.
Boring is a strategy
A definition that makes the table laugh gets read out, admired, and voted for by nobody.
Chase the dead ringer
On acronyms and films the truth is often guessable, and writing it scores 300 without fooling anyone.
Vote on register, not content
Dictionary prose has a rhythm — the entry that sounds like a person being funny is a person being funny.
Mix the decks for the table
The obscure-words deck rewards a big vocabulary; acronyms and films level the room, so pick for who is playing.

What is a dead ringer?
A definition close enough to the card’s real one that the game calls it true. It scores 300, and you sit out the vote on that card.
What if nobody finds the true definition?
The 200 for the truth simply goes unclaimed, and every vote lands on somebody’s lie at 100 points a head. A round the liars sweep is a good round.
Can I vote for my own definition?
No. You vote for the entry you think came off the card, and your own is never on your ballot.
What kinds of cards come up?
