A party game has one job, which is to keep every person in the room doing something. Psych and Quiplash have the whole table typing at the same time and then voting on the results; Herd Mentality has everyone answering the same question at once. Nobody waits for a turn.

Length does the rest. Psych and Fake Artist run five to ten minutes and Quiplash and Wits & Wagers ten to fifteen, which is short enough that losing one is not an evening — a table plays four of them instead of committing to one.

Nothing here knocks people out. Even Monopoly Deal and Paperback, the two with real tactics in them, end on a third colour set or an empty Fame pile rather than by eliminating anybody — so whoever is having the worst night is still playing at the end of it.

Questions about Party games to play online

Which one should we open with?

Psych. It runs five to ten minutes, the prompts have your own friends’ names in them, and there is nothing anybody needs to understand before the first round starts.

How long does a night of these actually take?

Most are five to fifteen minutes a game, so two hours is four or five of them. Paperback is the outlier at fifteen to twenty-five, and it is the one to play early rather than last.

Which of these work with only three people?

Psych, Quiplash, Herd Mentality, Wits & Wagers and Just One all seat three. Fake Artist needs four before anybody has anything to hide behind.

Is there anything with a proper game underneath it?

Monopoly Deal and Paperback. Deal is three colour sets and a table where everything you own can be taken; Paperback is a deck-builder where the cards are letters and the score is also a wild.
